🔴 TOP PRIORITYDar es Salaam Terminal 1 Modernization Underway
DP World's contractor EDECS started Terminal 1 upgrade (Aug 19). Port hit record 33.7M tons in FY2025/26 — but expect ~4-day vessel waiting times during construction. Plan buffer time for shipments.
Finance Act 2026: VAT Deferment Now Permanent
The sunset clause on 18% VAT deferment for imported capital goods has been removed. Machinery and industrial equipment importers no longer pay VAT upfront — enforceable 30-day refund deadline applies.

The June 30 NTB elimination deadline has passed. Enforcement is now active — expect smoother customs processing within EAC, but stricter documentation requirements. Verify your paperwork is in order.
China Opens Zero-Tariff for TZ Horticulture
Effective May 1, 2026 — Tanzania can export horticultural products to China duty-free. Meanwhile, China has tightened export licensing for batteries and dual-use goods. Verify compliance before shipping.
Customs Processing Fee Raised: 0.6% → 1.0%
Effective July 1 under Finance Act 2025/26. Adds ~$200 per $50,000 container. Budget accordingly for upcoming shipments.
📈 Port Hits Record 46,582 TEUs in July 2026
Dar es Salaam handled 33.7M tons total in FY2025/26. Tanzania's trade volume is growing fast — more shipping capacity and routes are coming online.
